I’m actually ready for it to snow again.
I’m not sure why, but after several years here, Killdeer have finally decided to nest in my field. Perhaps because this is the first year I’ve mowed it. I don’t mind though as they are pretty cute and would rather run than fly. Hopefully I’ll see some tiny chicks in a few months. Their nest is somewhere over by the Woodchuck’s den.
Wow, I haven’t been on here in forever. Anyway, I went on my first bike ride today since I broke my hand last June. All went well, the wind was no problem and zero cars as usual. My hand hurts like crazy though. I will probably skip tomorrow and do the 10 mile route again on Tuesday. As soon as my hand quits hurting (within reason) I can tackle the gigantic hill on the corner of F and Westview and I’ll probably be OK with the 65mph traffic on Lake Shore by then too. Now all I need to do is get a decent bike. According to Google maps, it’s exactly 10 miles. Points A and F obviously being my house.
One of those days.
The kind where you wish you had help with your life, but not the kind available.
The Red-winged Blackbirds & Robins are back. There are Sandhill Cranes everywhere.
I’ve seen swans two days in a row, but this only looks like spring until I see some hummingbirds and finches. I’m still pretty happy about it though.
So, I guess I reckon it wouldn’t really be an update without a song. So, I’ve been sorting out my attic and been going through tons of papers and junk. I realized that there are some boxes that have never been unpacked between my first and second apartment in Chicago. Long, long ago. I found some of my first Chicago-isms documented on paper in said boxes. My very first job (second job offer) in Chicago was Sound Warehouse in March of 94. I worked with some real weirdos. In fact, when Blockbuster bought Sound Warehouse, we all quit en masse and were quickly hired by Tower Records as a result. Anyway, this was one the records on non-stop play when I was hired. It was a good concert too. Before the dead guy was knows as “the dead guy”. Things were sure different when I was 23. It’s still good, but I used to love this song back then.
With rehabbing my attic, painting rooms, moving into my bedroom and working 6 days a week. I’ve been fairly over whelmed with no time for posts here or anywhere. I caught this fella stealing bird seed while I was making lunch today. The picture is awful. It is a lot more red than this. Yeah, this post is boring, but I’m drained……
If it were still called Lupercalia it would last for three days and start today.
Stupid Popes, always ruining people’s good times.
Anyway, I’m busy tomorrow and won’t have time to post a picture.
When my mom asked me what I wanted for x-mas, I told her that I wanted a 40lb bag of dried chili from home. She actually got it for me which was pretty awesome. Anyway, I’ve been using it to make chili oil and chili puree. Here is my 4th batch. I use it on pretty much everything. The oil is peanut based so it’s great for cooking and tastes amazing without being too hot. I stir 2-3 tablespoons of the puree into a 5lb tub of hummus. It makes the best hummus I’ve ever had, and that is very hot. Anyway, this is what I do when I’m snowed in. Please ignore my toaster oven door covered with crumbs. I case you were wondering, it’s one liter of peanut oil, about 20 New Mexico Red peppers, and 3 whole Cayenne peppers I grew and dried last summer. Let it steep at 276 degrees for about 3 hours.
Oh, that’s a garlic clove in the bottom. There are actually 2 in there.
I got a new digital scale and you can choose between grams, pounds or stone. I thought that weighing things in stone was out dated, but what do I know. I mean if they put it on a new digital scale, it must still be widely used somewhere. England?
Anyway, in case you were wondering, it seems that I’m 11 stone, 13 pounds. I like the sound of that better. I’m sure there are some LOTR geeks out there that only use stone for weight, which is why I probably wont.
OK, now I know…
I often ask my cats if they are cool for themselves. I get puzzled, tilted heads in return.
Opal loves her new kitty quilt from grandma. And you were right, sewing in the loose threads to play with was a good idea. She dropped her skunk toy just to come check it out and have a stretch.
I’m actually ready for it to snow again.
